Description

Build a strong foundation in construction estimating and gain practical insight into how projects move from plans and specifications to a complete estimate. This course introduces participants to the fundamental concepts, tools, and processes used in construction estimating. Through practical instruction and industry examples, participants will explore quantity takeoffs, cost data, pricing, bid preparation, and other essential components of the estimating process.

Participants will explore: 

  • Construction estimating fundamentals and common estimating tools
  • Understanding project scope, bid packages, and contract documents
  • Quantity takeoffs
  • Unit Rates, Labor, equipment, materials, historical cost data
  • Overhead, markup, and profit basics
  • Scope inclusions, exclusions, assumptions, and qualifications
  • Subcontractor and supplier pricing fundamentals
  • Bid preparation and proposal development
  • Project buyout fundamentals

This course is designed for: 

  • Estimator trainees and assistant estimators 
  • Project engineers and project managers 
  • Construction professionals who support the estimating or preconstruction process 
  • Anyone seeking a stronger understanding of how construction projects are estimated and priced

Requirements: Participants should have access to Microsoft Excel. Bringing a laptop to class is strongly recommended for exercises and hands-on activities.
